No. 8 Spirit Lake holds off Tornado rally

Monday, January 7, 2008

SIOUX RAPIDS - Alta's girls got off to a rocky start offensively Friday in a 58-45 loss to the Sioux Central Rebels.

The Cyclones fell to 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the Northwest Conference, while Sioux Central improved to 7-1 in the conference.

"Offensively you could tell we had a break. The timing wasn't there. Defensively we had pretty good intensity at times, but it was not our best night," said Alta coach Jeannie Henningsen. "They kind of ran us off the court, and we recovered, but couldn't get over that hump the rest of the game."

The Rebels led 18-9 after the first quarter, 32-23 at halftime and 40-31 going into the fourth quarter.

Jordan Henningsen paced the Cyclones with 18 points.

Jessy Bibler added 12, Haley Payne six, Sam Hamer three, and Anne Curbow, Emily Grieme and Courtney VanHaaften all added two.

Hamer and Bibler pulled down nine and eight rebounds respectively.

Sioux Central's Brooke Scharn led all scorers with 28.

Grace Rehnstrom added 12 and Steph Thompson 11 to join her in double figures.

Scharn had a double-double with 11 rebounds, and she also posted five steals.
