BVU men post Double OT victory
Rahn Franklin, Jr. scored eight of Buena Vista's 11 points during the second overtime as the Beavers topped The College of New Jersey, 84-77, on Wednesday night, snapping a two-game losing skid.
BVU led by six (63-57) with 33 seconds left to play in regulation before the Lions went on a 7-1 run to force overtime at 64-64.
In the first overtime, TCNJ led from the start, including a four-point lead with just more than a minute left to play. Adam Arndorfer scored a bucket with just less than a minute remaining to pull BVU to within two at 73-71. The Beavers then got some help when the Lions missed a pair of free-throw attempts with 35 seconds left leading to the game-tying jumper from Matt Cleveland with six seconds to play.
Arndorfer made 1-of-2 shots from the charity stripe to begin the second overtime, giving BVU a lead it would not let go. Franklin, who finished with 12 points in the contest, extended the lead to three with his lay-up, before connecting on back-to-back three-point shots, to secure the seven-point victory.
Andre Wagner buried 7-of-14 shots from the field, including a 4-of-8 performance from downtown, to lead Buena Vista with 22 points. Cleveland followed with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Arndorfer chipped in with 15 points and six boards. Franklin, Jr. tallied a game-high six assists, to go along with three steals.
BVU shot 47.5 percent from the field in the contest, while holding TCNJ to only 36.8 percent.
