Beavers fall to No. 7 Coe, 29-9

In a key Iowa Conference showdown on Thursday night, the Buena Vista wrestling team was able to pull out only three decisions, as seventh-ranked Coe College got the better end of the 12th-ranked Beavers, en route to the 29-9 victory.

The Kohawks jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead before BVU picked up its first win of the match. Aaron Cook, ranked 10th in the latest rankings released on Tuesday, pulled out a 4-0 decision over Tyler Baker (13-5) at 149 pounds, en route to his 11th win of the season.

Joey Verschoor (157 pounds) made it back-to-back wins for the Beavers with an 11-6 triumph over 10th-ranked Bryon Grothus. Following three straight decisions by Coe, BVU tallied its final win of the night - a slim 6-4 victory by Brian Stueve at 197 pounds.

Buena Vista drops to 1-2 overall (1-1 IIAC) as the Kohawks remain perfect on the season (6-0, 2-0 IIAC). The Beavers return today when they take part in the annual Dick Walker Invite, hosted by Wartburg College. Wrestling in Waverly, Iowa, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
