Chris Juilfs, 88, Fonda, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at his home near Fonda.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in rural Palmer, with Paul Abens serving as officiant. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, rural Palmer. The arrangements are under the direction of the Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda.
Friends called on Friday, Nov. 30, from 5-7 p.m. at the Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda.
Christian Wilhelm Juilfs was born on Aug. 17, 1919 to Harm and Engel (Klaassen) Juilfs in rural Palmer, the tenth of eleven children. He attended country school in Pocahontas County.
Chris joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was united in marriage to Helen Schoon in 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Palmer. The couple was blessed with six children: Elaine, Kathy, Denny, Dave, Kristi and Bev. They farmed in the Palmer area until 1951, when they moved to their home north of Fonda, where Chris continued to farm until his retirement.
Chris was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, rural Palmer. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, baking rye bread and watching sports. He loved his family and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his children: Elaine (Dan) Tastad, Denny (Shelly) Juilfs, Dave (Kim) Juilfs, Kristi (Brian) Larsen and Bev (Tony) Tiedeman, all of Fonda, and Kathy Pudenzk, Ringsted; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, George, Pomeroy; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; brothers John, Claus, Harvey, Carl and Henry; and sisters Grace, Ethel, Emma and Dora.

Shirley Maher, 81, Storm Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Maher will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with Father Bruce Lawler celebrating the Mass for Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Friends called from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where family was present from 6-8 p.m. There was a 3:30 p.m. Legion of Mary Rosary and a vigil service held at 7 p.m., both at the funeral home during visitation hours. Shirley Kathryn Myers was born Oct. 5, 1926 in Sidney, the daughter of Earl and Mildred (Elliott) Myers. She attended grade school at Anderson, before graduating from Sidney High School in 1943.
On Feb. 27, 1949, Shirley married A. Duane Maher at St. Mary's Church in Hamburg. The couple was blessed with four children: Sandy, Dennis, Connie and Sherri.
Shirley was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake and was a member there at the time of her death. She spent her life devoted to raising her four children. In her later years, she worked at Wal-Mart, where she was affectionately known to some of the smaller children as "Grandma Wal-Mart." She was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved to attend all the various school activities in which her family was involved. Her quiet, caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sandy (George) Schmitt, Wall Lake; Dennis (Mary) Maher, Storm Lake; Connie (James) Hoft, Lake View; and Sherri (Don) Fitzpatrick, Storm Lake; grandchildren: Lisa (Jason) Paysen, Wall Lake; Travis (Teresa) Schmitt, Lake View; Brian (Brenda) Schmitt, Wall Lake; Amy (Jeff) Hanks, Alta; Amanda Maher, Sioux City; Molly (Mike) Vondrak, Galva; Cory (Barb) Weber, Lake View; Shelly (Chad) Simm, Paullina; Angela (Mike) Fischer, Sac City; Sara Fitzpatrick, Ames; Cody Fitzpatrick and Haley Fitzpatrick, both Storm Lake; 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Gilda Otte, Maryville, Mo. and Janice Myers, Sidney; extended family and a host of friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mildred Myers; her husband, Duane Maher; her granddaughter, Holly Maher; two brothers, Robert Myers and James Myers; and her niece, Kristi Myers.

Agnes M. Beauchemin, 88, Champlin, Minn. and formerly of Storm Lake, died on Saturday, December 1, in Champlin.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
