Clarke held an early 8-5 advantage before the Beavers went on a 12-4 run over the next six minutes to take a 20-9 lead. BVU maintained its advantage and led by as many as 20 late in the first half en route to a 43-31 halftime lead.
Buena Vista went out in front by 16 (47-31) nearly three minutes into the second half before the Crusaders rallied back to within 10 at 49-39. After seeing BVU go back up by 15 midway through the half, Clarke began chipping away yet again; pulling back to within seven with 8:11 to play.
The Beavers again extended their lead back to 15, but Clarke, which shot 5-of-11 from long range in the second half, stayed tough, pulling back to within seven with 2:16 left in regulation, but that was as close as the team could get, as BVU won its second straight contest overall.
The Beavers and coach Brian VanHaaften are at Coe tomorrow night at 8.
