2 jailed, cars crashed in wild, possibly drug-related incidents
Storm Lake Police didn't have to search far for the victim of a stabbing attack in the early morning hours Tuesday - he turned up in their parking lot.
Officers were called out to an apartment at 120 Highway Street shortly before 4:30 a.m. for a violent disturbance that police now believe was drug-related. At the same time, they were alerted that a stabbing victim had been brought to the south parking lot at the police station.
Police interviewed witnesses at both locations and learned that two adult males had reportedly gone to the apartment and stabbed a 36-year-old man whose name was not released.The assailants left the scene.
The victim went to a neighbor's apartment and asked for a ride to the medical center. As they were leaving the complex the suspects returned and the second suspect reportedly attempted to stab the victim again.
The neighbor, with the victim in a vehicle, struck three cars in the parking lot while trying to escape the assailants, knocking one of the vehicles into the wall of the building at 120 Highway Street #14. He drove to the police station parking lot for help.
Buena Vista County Paramedics were dispatched to the police station parking lot and transported the stabbing victim to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where he was treated.
Police identified the suspects and were given a description of a vehicle they had fled in. Police lated spotted the car parked at 220 East 5th Street. Officers and the K9 unit police dog checked three apartments in the building before locating both suspects in Apartment #7. They were taken into custody without a struggle.
During the Tuesday morning hours officers executed four search warrants in connection with the incident.
Two search warrants were executed on vehicles involved in the incident. A knife was seized from one of the vehicles. Search warrants were also executed at 220 East 5th Street, #7 and 120 Highway Street #11. Police seized small amounts of marijuana in each apartment.
Based on information and evidence collected, Storm Lake Police have charged Alfredo Valdez, age 30 of Storm Lake with Going Armed With Intent, Willful Injury and Assault While Participating in a Felony (all three charges are felonies). He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
Police also charged Ulises Cedillo-Barragan, age 18 of Storm Lake with Going Armed With Intent and Assault While Participating in a Felony (both felonies). He was booked into the County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.
The two suspects are not related, and police said they were not immediately certain of any connections between them.
The investigation is continuing.
