Several area athletes have landed on the 2007 Iowa Newspaper Association All-State football team.
In Class 1A, junior Trevor Tiefenthaler of Sioux Central made the first team at wide receiver.
Tiefenthaler caught 41 passes for 579 yards and eight touchdowns. He was also the Rebels' second leading tackler with 70 stops.
In Class A, senior Scott Radke of Alta made the first team at defensive lineman, senior Robert Devereaux of Newell-Fonda made the first team at offensive lineman and senior Cody Nesbitt of Alta made the first team at offensive utility.
Nesbitt led the district in scoring, putting up 132 points (22 TDs) over Alta's 10 games. He also led the Cyclones in rushing with 1,154 yards on 136 carries and made 33 solo tackles. He caught exactly half of quarterback Aaron Hansen's 56 completions for 439 yards.
Radke made 59 tackles to go with three fumble recoveries, while Devereaux paved the way for a potent Mustangs ground attack featuring Josh Hopper and Spencer Baak.
Senior Travis Leuer of Laurens-Marathon made the second team at defensive back while senior Nathan Schumann of Newell-Fonda made the second team at punter.
Leuer led the area in receiving yards (633) and interceptions (11).
In 8-player, Aurelia senior Jared Bruce made the third team at quarterback.
Bruce led the Bulldogs in rushing (585 yards on 146 carries with 14 touchdowns) and passing (83 of 166 for 1,224 yards with 17 TDs). He added another TD on a kick return. Defensively Bruce made 76 tackles while leading Aurelia in interceptions (5) and forced fumbles (2).
