4-H'ers presented the first of two Automated External Defibrillators ( known as an AED) to the Newell Police Department at the November city council meeting in Newell. The 4-H'ers initial fundraiser included selling home-made apple pies made with apples from their 4-H orchard. They were selected to receive a matching Buena Vista County Endowment grant. The group then sought out community partners to help fund the remainder of the AED costs. All of those supporting the purchase of the AEDs for the Newell Community will be recognized on November 27th during half-time of the high school girls basketball game.
Rather than wait, the 4-H'ers agreed to get the equipment installed in the police vehicle as soon as it arrived. The early arrival and use of an AED will increase the chance for survival if applied as soon as possible on a person in cardiac arrest.
The 4-H club wishes to thank the grant providers, and generous donors from the community, organizations and businesses.
