Area school drill teams participate in State competition

The 2008 Iowa State Dance/Drill Team Championships will be held at Veterans Memorial Auditorium and Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines on Friday, Nov. 30 and Sat. Dec. 1. There will be 275 high school teams and college dance teams in competitions performing 520 routines during the two-day competition. There will be close to 500 participants.

Routines will be performed and judged in several categories: pom, jazz, novelty, lights, military, hip-hop, lyrical, hoopla, prop, kick, show production, color guard, all-male and co-ed.

The teams are judged by an expert panel of judges from across the United States. The judges' scores are based on appearance, choreography, execution, technique and general effect/ showmanship.

Doors are open to spectators at 7 a.m. The competition runs from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. both days. All seats are general admission, the cost is $9 for one day or $16 for both days.

Sioux Central Dance Attack will be performing Saturday, Dec. 1. The first routine will be at 8:24 a.m. for the hoopla, 12:33 p.m. for Pom, and 7 p.m. for kick. The girls will also be recognized for their Excellence in Academic Achievement for maintaining an average GPA of 3.55.

Storm Lake will perform in three catagories. Pom, class 11, Large school hoopla and large school military.
