Behind the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, what used to be a parking area has been turned into a busy construction site. The first part of the center's expansion project is well underway, with crews installing sewer line and casings for the lines.
According to BVRMC CEO Todd Hudspeth, this phase is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
"They will then start construction, which will require moving of more dirt, and pouring of the footings, and then steel would start go up," Hudspeth said. "The main concern is getting the concrete poured before it gets too cold."
The project is expected to be completed in about 24 months and will expand the facility with 3,400 square feet and renovates to 13,600 square feet, redoing the current dinning and rehabilitation center and adding more surgical space.
The BVRMC board of Trustees broke ground on the expansion on August 27.
