The Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce is looking to pump up some early Christmas spirit.
"We're really trying to encourage more entries in the Christmas Parade that will be part of the Home for the Holidays celebration," Chamber Director Marilyn Monson says.
"The whole event is themed around family gatherings, so it would be great for all the families who will be getting together over Thanksgiving weekend in Storm Lake to come out and join the parade and create their own new family memory for Christmas."
This year's parade is being held on Saturday, November 24, at 10 a.m.
"We hope people will come out at that time. It's a whole new approach for us to do it in the morning, on a weekend, rather than the night-time parade we have had for several years - so we will have to see how it is received," Monson said.
Those who would like to join the parade - with a float or something as simple as the family loaded into a golf cart or walking their pets along the route, are invited to contact the chamber.
"It would be helpful to know ahead of time so that we have some idea how long of a parade to plan for, but people are also welcome to just come out the morning of the event and join the line up."
A parade setup area will be staged near North School, and entrants should be there by 9:30 a.m.
Several businesses will participate, including Sugar Bowl with a group of 40 children from their Webkinz toys program, Monson said.
Saturday events include a full lineup of musicians, entertainers and childrens' activities in the store windows downtown, starting at 9 a.m.
