Monday, October 29, 2007

Buena Vista University will host a Governors Volunteer Award ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The event is the last of four awards ceremonies being held in different parts of the state to honor individuals and groups who have strengthened Iowa's communities by volunteering with government agencies and nonprofit organizations. Lt. Gov. Patty Judge will make the award presentations at Storm Lake.

The ceremonies will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Schaller Memorial Chapel and are expected to draw over 400 people. A total of 123 awards will be presented.

"All volunteers are helping to build One Iowa by freely giving their time and talents to serve the public good," said Governor Culver. "Lt. Governor Judge and I are honored to have this opportunity to personally thank this year's award recipients for donating their time in countless ways to improve communities across the state. "We are building an unlimited future for all."

Iowa consistently ranks in the top 10 states in percentage of adults volunteering.
