The Storm Lake Community School District will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony Tuesday at 4 p.m. for the new elementary school project. The district released an architectural drawing this week showing a first indication of how the school may look, projected from concepts currently under discussion between the district and the architect.
The public is encouraged to attend the groundbreaking, to be held at the new elementary site's parking lot. Visitors may enter from 6th Street and Vista Drive and will exit on Garden Grove Drive and 6th Street.
Speakers are expected to include Superintendent Dr. Paul Tedesco; Dr. Dan Douglas, School Board President; elementray principals Ed Rude and Juli Kwikkel; Sheryl Kleppe, South and East Elementary Guidance Counselor; and Anne Gallagher, a member of the project's Citizen's Committee.
Student representatives from the current kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade classes will participate in a ceremonial turning of a spade of soil, along with district leaders, Citizen's Committee members and elementary staff.
Refreshments will be served following the ceremony in a tent on the site. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to the Middle School Commons.
