Tuesday, October 9, 2007

Girls in grades six through 12 can check out career paths in science, technology, engineering and math at October conferences scheduled at Iowa State University (ISU).

"Taking the Road Less Traveled" one-day conferences are sponsored by the Program for Women in Science and Engineering and take place at the ISU Memorial Union on the Ames campus. An Oct. 11 conference is for nine through 12th graders and Oct. 18 and 25 conferences are for six through ninth graders.

Approximately 2,500 individuals participate in the conferences each year, according to Carol Heaverlo, outreach coordinator for the women's science program. In the morning participants hear from professional women; in the afternoon they participate in hands-on activities or tours.

Registration forms are at http://www.pwse.iastate.edu/outreach/trl.... Cost is $15 per participant.
