The Storm Lake volleyball team fell to 7-14 overall and 1-4 in the Lakes Tuesday after 2A top-ranked Hull Western Christian swept through town with a swift 25-6, 25-8, 25-4 league victory.
"Western Christian has another solid team and played very well tonight. We made them earn their points by not making very many unforced errors," said Tornadoes coach Kim Johnson, who has already guided her team to more victories than it produced last year. "We were able to get a hand on many of their hits and defensively we were in the right spots but they just overpowered us. I was very impressed with how scrappy Western was and that's one of the reasons they are rated No. 1 in the state."
The Tornadoes, who play at Emmetsburg tonight, had just three kills on the night: one each from Courtney Lovetinsky, Michaela Brungardt and Cassie Meylor.
In freshman action Tuesday, the Wolfpack also prevailed, 21-5, 21-13.
"We lost to a solid team," said Tornadoes coach Janet Anderson, whose team slipped to 5-3 overall, 2-3 Lakes.
Tori Peck was 12 of 14 serving for Storm Lake, while Samantha Kavan and Jackie Brungardt each booked a kill.
Katelyn Larson and Katie Goodchild both dished two assists.
