The Storm Lake High School Marching Band participated in the 59th annual Algona Band Day on Saturday, Sept. 29. The day includes a competitive parade in the afternoon and a field competition in the evening. A beautiful fall day was host to this event that gave the SLHS students a little larger view of what bands in other schools do. This contest is primarily used as a warm-up for the State Festival.
The Tornado Band performed in both events and earned some good marks and much praise for their performances. In the parade competition SLHS earned third place out of four class 3A bands. On the field that evening the band earned fourth place out of the 8 class 3A bands competing. The SLHS percussion drum line also was one of four drum lines that performed in an exhibition to a large crowd of enthusiastic band students and adults present at the parade reviewing stand in the afternoon. Overall the day was an excellent educational experience and the SLHS students represented the music department very well.
This Saturday, Oct. 6, is the date for the Iowa High School Music Association Marching Band Festival that will be held at Sheldon High School. The SLHS band performs at 1:45 p.m. SLHS Music department officials said band students would appreciate support from the local public.
