Newell-Fonda's 22-19 win Friday over Schaller-Crestland's football team kept the Mustangs in good company with some of the state's top programs.
The Class A District 3 opening victory was N-F's 11th straight district win.
The last time Newell-Fonda lost a district game was Oct. 21, 2005, when it fell to West Bend-Mallard by a 9-7 score.
Wapsie Valley also has won 11 in a row in their district.
Class 3A Harlan holds the current state record. The Cyclones have won 29 consecutive district matchups since a 24-21 overtime loss to Atlantic Nov. 1, 2002.
West Des Moines Valley (23 straight district wins), North Fayette (23), West Hancock (19), Northeast Hamilton (17), Wilton (16), Glidden-Ralston (16), North Scott (15) and Lenox (12) round out the leaderboard.
The Mustangs host Rockwell City-Lytton this Friday night at 7:30 in their homecoming contest.
