Northwest Iowa's Self-Guided Open Studio Art Tour will return Saturday and Sunday October 13-14.
Welcome to Artisans Road Trip 2007 - Happy travels!
Art lovers will get a chance to tour as many studios as they would like, getting to meet many of the region's top artists in a wide range of genres, see their best work, and get the rare opportunity to learn how their pieces originate.
Hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
For the past four years, professional artists have been banding together in the Artisan's Road Trip to welcome guests, who in many cases have the option to purchase original works.
This year's tour will include artists in seven counties surrounding Buena Vista, with a core of top artisans running from Storm Lake to the Iowa Great Lakes and beyond.
"A.R.T. invites you to travel Iowa's scenic byways and back roads looking for one-of-a-kind art treasures. Artisans will offer a rare glimpse into creative processes as they demonstrate their craft in personal and unique workspaces," says Beth Cathcart, a Linn Grove artist and one of the organizers of the event.
You can preview artists' work or request a brochure with maps @artisansroadtrip.com and begin planning your self-guided tour.
A.R.T. is organized and run by "Artists for Artists," a group designed to spur art education and tourism and to create markets for the work of artisans in northwest Iowa.
Dining and lodging can also be arranged for those coming from a distance to take part in the tour.
Storm Lake artists taking part include:
* Joleen Dentlinger, Unique Inque Studio, 138 Pheasant Avenue, with pen and ink drawings.
* Ron Netten, Netten Pottery, 1813 W. 6th Street, with functional, decorative and sculptural ceramics.
* Anita Coon, of The Studio Upstairs: Anita's Originals, 506 1/2 Lake Avenue, with oil and oil stick paintings on paper.
* Cherie Courter, Studio Upstairs II, 530 1/2 Erie Street, paintings and portraits.
