Newell-Fonda's volleyball team is hoping to capture a league title after tying for second place in the Northwest Conference last year.
To do so, the Mustangs must replace two starters from last year's club.
"The team came together towards the end of last season and gained some valuable experience," said Newell-Fonda coach Craig Davis, who is assisted by Patti Demers.
"We play a challenging regular season schedule again this year."
Included on the Mustangs' non-league slate are dates with Southern Cal, RC-L, Paton-Churdan, East Sac County and Manson-Northwest Webster. The Mustangs also play in tournaments at Sheldon, Laurens-Marathon and H-M-S.
Newell-Fonda has six returning letterwinners: senior Megan Peters, junior Lauren Devereaux, junior Rachel Culp, junior Karina Overgaard, sophomore Alisa Christensen and sophomore Susan Kies.
Others who will contribute include junior Katie Kaufman, and sophomores Katelyn Laursen and Becky Seivert.
"We are very early in the season, but coach Demers and I feel that we are ahead of where we were last year at this time mentally and skill-wise," Davis said. "We do need to improve in many areas including serve receive and blocking. This group has been willing to do whatever it takes to make the team better.
"With so many great coaches in the Northwest Conference, teams have got to come ready to play every night."
The Mustangs open the season Aug. 28 at Southern Cal.
