Ivey running for a good cause

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

If Storm Laker Troy Ivey accomplishes his mission, he'll have run a marathon in all 50 states before he turns 50.

So far, Ivey, 44, has completed five marathons, with four more scheduled this year.

Ivey has asked individuals to consider a sponsorship - which is a tax-deductible gift - of at least $10 per marathon. The sponsorship will help provide funds for special projects at St. Mary's School.

One hundred percent of the money donated will go to St. Mary's school special projects.

Ivey ran his first 26.2-mile race in Philadelphia, Pa., in honor of his brother-in-law, Dr. Bill Moothart, who passed away suddenly in October at the age of 52.

Thus far, Ivey has run marathons in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Arkansas, North Dakota and Minnesota. He has New Mexico, Illinois, Oklahoma and Hawaii left on his 2007 slate.

He'll need to run 7-8 marathons per year over the next 6 years to complete his goal.
