Jayden VanBurkum helps spruce up area at swimming pool

Thursday, July 12, 2007

Jayden Van Burkum has been a member of the Alta Swimming Pool Swim Team for the past five summers. At the conclusion of the swim team program, a fundraising event is held to allow parents and friends to come in and watch as the youth share their swimming skills and each year, those proceeds go to purchase items for or at the swimming pool.

Funds were used to landscape an area outside the pool's entrance. Jayden was impressed with the area but knew it needed more. So for the past three years, he has provided items for the landscaped area, paying for the items with his own money. He has placed stepping stones in the area as well as two nice bushes. This year he added a barrel filled with flowers and a garden flag welcoming everyone. He also added a Morning Glory flower and a trellis for it to climb on.

The project, he said, is a 4-H citizenship project and he enjoys helping out. He plans to continue adding to the area.

Jayden is member of Maple Valley Motivators 4-H Club
