Storm Lake shortstop Mitch McCabe had two hits in a five-inning home loss to the Spencer baseball team Monday, the 18-7 score of which was reported in Tuesday's Pilot-Tribune.
The Tigers jumped up 16-0 and scored eight runs in the first, eight in the third and two in the fifth.
Storm Lake mounted a mini-comeback with five runs of its own in the bottom half of three. Michael McCabe led off with a single, followed by singles from Mitch McCabe, Alex Severson and Zach Miller. Severson knocked in Mitch and Michael McCabe with his single. Nick Crippin then cleared the bases with a three-run homer.
The Tornadoes (11-12, 4-10 Lakes) scored two more in the fourth, in which Mitch McCabe knocked in Ben Smith (who had singled) with a triple.
Crippin finished with three RBIs and Severson two for SL, which out-hit Spencer 9-8.
Storm Lake's Ben Seaman took the loss, with 16 runs (10 earned), seven hits, five walks, one hit batsman and one strikeout in three innings.
Eighth grader Carson Anderson came on in relief and allowed one hit and two earned runs while walking two and fanning one.
