On June 19, six intermediate and senior 4-Her's took part in a journalism training held by Julie Hlas, External Relations Specialist for Iowa State Extension in the Northwest area.
These 4-Her's will be part of the newly formed Buena Vista County Media Corp. They were trained in the areas of news release writing, reporting on the radio, and taking digital pictures to "tell a story." The six 4-Her's who took part in the training include: Kathleen Arnts, Luke Arnts, Kelsey Brake, Hannah Fordyce, Shelby Meyer, and Chyann Smith. Three Media Corp members who have not yet been trained are Austin Ehlers, Molly Lamoureux, and Alyssa Sievers. These lucky 4-Her's will be 4-H representatives to the media and an instrumental part in showcasing the Buena Vista County Fair held on July 19-22, 2007.
At the fair, these 4-Her's will have their cameras ready while taking photographs at each 4-H event that takes place. They will use their creativity to share with the public the essence of 4-H and the 2007 Buena Vista County Fair. After the fair, they will be working on other projects including National 4-H Week and will be learning more about the field of journalism through trips to Iowa newspapers, radio stations, or television stations. 4-Her's are still encouraged to get involved in the Media Corp by calling the Buena Vista County Extension Office.
