Tuesday, June 19, 2007

They needed a laugher.

This was a Saturday Night Live marathon.

Brendan Miller went the distance and struck out five batters, and Storm Lake belted 18 hits in a 19-0 shredding of Spirit Lake's baseball team Friday at Storm Lake.

"We hit the ball pretty good and got to play a lot of kids," said Storm Lake coach Bill McCabe.

The Tornadoes improved to 9-7 overall and 3-5 in the Lakes Conference.

They made one error the entire game and scored two runs in the first, seven in the second, seven in the third and four in the fourth.

In five innings on the mound Miller gave up no runs, three hits and walked a batter.

Offensively, Tyson Brandt went 3-for-3 with two triples and two RBIs, and five other Tornadoes had two hits apiece.

Mitch McCabe went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Zack Manteufel went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Nick Crippin was 2-for-3 with a double and a grand slam, Dallas Eddie went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and Lucas Droessler was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.

Crippin's slam came in the second inning; it was his sixth homer this season.

Additionally, Alex Severson went 1-for-3, Ben Smith was 1-for-4 with an RBI, Michael McCabe was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Brendan Miller and Zach Miller both went 1-for-1.
