BV's Buford joins in the 4th of July festivities

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

Buford the Beaver - Buena Vista University's mascot - will be making an appearance at the 2007 Storm Lake Fourth of July Star Spangled Spectacular. Beaver fans will be able to wave to Buford in the Big Parade starting at 10:30 a.m. - just yards away from the Buena Vista University campus.

Buena Vista fans will be able to meet Buford face to face, or face to fur, in Chautauqua Park from noon to 1 p.m. after the parade and have their photo taken with the giant beaver. Photos will be sent home with Buford's friends in a special commemorative folder.

The mascot was retired briefly in recent years, but gnawed its way back into fans' hearts last fall with the debut of a brand new design beaver costume created by 1-800-Mascots with the help of the Alumni Association Student Board. The new costume weighs less than 20 pounds and includes a cooling mechanism.

All entertainment for the Star Spangled Spectacular is free and open to the public, sponsored by private donations.
