Norman and Lorna Bonnema recently returned from Pensacola, Fla. visiting their son, Dr. Craig Bonnema and family along with their daughter, Kristi Prouty and granddaughter Megan Prouty, both from Oklahoma City, Okla.
They made the trip to be present for the promotion of Craig to Captain, Medical Corps, U.S. Navy on June 1. Hosted by the Commanding Officer of the Naval Hospital, Pensacola, guests included the Surgeon General of the Navy, Vice Admiral Donald C. Arthur, MC USN.
Craig has served in the U.S. Navy on active duty since 1981 and is currently the Director of Surgical Services at the hospital. In addition, he recently concluded a six-month assignment based in Djbouti where he served as senior medical officer with the Combined Joint Task Force- Horn of Africa, a multi-nation effort to enhance the quality-of-life of residents in the region adjacent to the Gulf of Aden.
