Locally-designed system reeling in good reviews
As the Storm Lake State Marina takes shape at Casino Beach, its innovative dock system will be the largest ever created by manufacturer ShoreStation, based in Okoboji. The dock will include 300 sections, including slips for up to 84 boats, a fisheries system, a fishing pier, and a personal watercraft dock. Next year, 100 more sections of dock are planned to include a courtesy dock, four loading docks, gas service station and another fishing pier.
"I first saw ShoreStation dock at our Patrol Station at Gull Point State Park on West Okoboji," Department of Natural Resources Engineer Don Labate said.
"After walking the system I was quite impressed by the stability of the docks. That is a very important feature for us as we have many different user groups visiting our facilities, from small children to the elderly. We also need to be sensitive to the disabled and to those users requiring handicap accessibility."
"I think our marina users will be impressed with the dock systems for their stability and uniform appearance," Labate added. "Our staff will also appreciate the low maintenance construction and ease of reconfiguration and leveling. We have already had many compliments on the new systems and they are not even open for use yet."
ShoreStation docks are manufactured and distributed by Midwest Industries, Inc. based in Ida Grove, Iowa. They were first developed and designed in 1998 by the late founder Byron Godbersen.
