Rebels top R-U, SLSM to improve to 7-0

Sioux Central and pitcher Brooke Scharn improved to 7-0 with a pair of recent shutouts here.

On Monday the Rebels blanked Remsen-Union 10-0.

In seven innings of work, Scharn allowed two hits and struck out nine batters, with two walks.

Beth Ehlers and Tricia Hogrefe both had three hits for the Rebels, while Briana Scharn, Stephanie Thompson, Brianna Ehlers and Cassie Moens all had a pair.

Brianna Ehlers, Thompson and Beth Ehlers led the way in the RBI department with two apiece.

On Tuesday the Rebels prevailed 12-0 over Storm Lake St. Mary's in four innings, with Scharn mowing down five batters during those four frames.

Sioux Central plated two in the first, three in the second, two in the third and five in the fourth.

Thompson and Beth Ehlers both belted a pair of hits while Thompson drove in a pair of runs.

Becky Lenhart and Robyn Bredvick paced St. Mary's with a base hit apiece.

Rylee Paterson got the starting nod, and Ashley Miller relieved her in the third inning.

"We couldn't get our bats around to get hitting off of Scharn," said Panthers coach Monica Tucker. "Sioux Central took advantage of our walks and had their share of base hits also for the four innings of play."
