Mustangs prove too much for Aurelia baseball club, put up 17 runs in five innings
Newell-Fonda's baseball team rolled the Aurelia Bulldogs 17-1 in five innings here Monday.
The Mustangs put one on the board in the second inning, then followed that up with eight in the third and eight in the fourth. Aurelia scored its only run in the top of the fifth.
"Kane Koster threw very well tonight. His breaking ball was much better than his last start. Defensively we are starting to play much better," said N-F coach Jim Miller. "We're playing with much more confidence than a week ago. We swung the bats pretty well. I was glad to see Matt Spaulding get a couple of hits tonight.
"He has gotten off to a slow start, but he is a proven hitter for us that we need in the middle of our lineup."
In five innings of employment, Koster allowed one run and three hits, while walking five and striking out six.
The Mustangs out-hit Aurelia 9-3 and committed one error to the Bulldogs' four.
They also drew 10 walks, while Aurelia drew five.
Jack Reis and Spaulding both went 2-for-3 at the plate for Newell-Fonda. Spaulding drove in a run, while Daniel Wells and Parker Wells both had a hit and two RBIs.
Jared Bruce took the loss for Aurelia.
The Bulldogs made costly errors in the third and fourth innings, said Aurelia coach T.J. Schaefer.
Bruce went 2-for-3 and scored the lone run. Tanner Winterhof was 1-for-3, and Kody Pinkerton and Chris Wiseman both walked twice.
