One of the first big community celebrations of the season is Summerfest in Albert City - featuring an unusual event that reflects the Scandinavian heritage of the area.
Summerfest will be held on Saturday, June 16, with the Swedish Midsummer Pole Dance to be held at 10:45 a.m. Everyone is invited.
The event is based on the Germanic traditions of the maypole.
The day includes lots of activities:
There will be a quilt show at the library and sidewalk sales in the morning.
The parade kicks off at 10, with antique John Deere and the Citizen of the Year awards featured.
A Picnic in the Park is planned for lunch, with a community band concert at 11:30. Tours of the ethanol plant will be offered in the afternoon.
Free swimming will begin at 1:15 at the pool, and the msueum will open for tours from 1:15-4.
There will be a ping-pong ball drop at 1:15. A pedal tractor pull begins at 1:45, with firemens' water fights at 2.
Also, check out the craft fair in the park.
