Buena Vista University's highest faculty and staff honors were presented during the annual BVU Faculty/Staff Recognition Dinner recently. The seventh annual Education for Service award was presented to Rudy Fleege, associate director of facilities management. Fleege, who has been employed at BVU for 15 years and is responsible for grounds and custodial budgeting, planning and operations, was honored for his dedication and commitment as a role model for the BVU community.
"Because I was unable to attend the recognition dinner, I'd like to extend my special thanks and gratitude to BVU and all the members of our community, students, faculty and staff, both present and past, who made this award possible," said Fleege.
John and Connie Klockentager established the Education for Service award in 1998 to annually honor a faculty or staff member. John is a former vice president for enrollment services at BVU.
Those nominating Fleege noted him as a "friendly voice on campus" and "a visionary whose efforts have led to an environment that is attractive, functional and educational."
Says one of the nomination letters "In more than a decade of service, [Rudy] has taken the well being of our physical infrastructure to heart, working to maintain the facilities, especially the grounds, and advocating for a beautiful and functional campus.
He is largely responsible for the existence of the Tallgrass Prairie Exhibit and has taken a keen interest in the condition of the greenhouse.
