First day at waterpark to be a freebie

Tuesday, June 5, 2007

King's Pointe Waterpark will kick off the inaugural season at the park with a Grand Opening event on Friday, June 15, Storm Lake city officials confirmed on Monday.

The event is free to the public, including swimming that Friday.

The Grand Opening will begin with a short program and ribbon cutting at 11:40AM on the deck of the waterpark. Guests will be allowed to enter the facility beginning at 11:30.

One of the main events will be the unveiling of the six slides and the coveted inaugural slide for each. Persons interested in being one of the first to slide down the outdoor slides can register online at www.kingspointeresort.com or at www.stormlakeradio.com. Forms are also available at City Hall. Individuals must be at least 48 inches tall to slide on the five water park slides in the Lazy River; however, kids under 48 inches can register to be the first one down the youth slide.

King's Pointe staff will draw 20 finalists from which the lucky six will be selected at the grand opening.

The waterpark will open immediately following the first rides.

"We are sure that the community will be proud of this facility," said Patti Moore. "We are also excited to offer a day of free swimming to the community as a way of saying thank you for their support."

In case of severe weather, the events will be held on Saturday, June 16.
