The vocal music department at Buena Vista University will host two Summer Music Camps in 2007.
The Showchoir Camp which hosts over 100 participants each summer will be held July 27-29. Prominent directors from across Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska direct three Showchoirs of visiting students. Each choir learns a full choreographed show of pop and Broadway music and at the conclusion of the camp, will present the Finale Show. This event is open to the public in Anderson Auditorium at the conclusion of camp on Sunday, July 29.
The Iowa All-State Preparation Camp is Aug. 2-4. Nearly 200 students attend the camp each summer to begin learning the newly released All-State music for the fall auditions. Everett Johnson, camp founder, will be returning as guest director. Paula Keeler, Buena Vista University; Mary Citta, Iowa All-State Chair; and Jeff Tollefson, Storm Lake High School are among the directors and accompanists who work on campus to help prepare the students.
Applications for both camps are available at www.bvu.edu under the heading of Camps and Conferences, or interested parents and students may call 712-749-2193 for information.
Paula Keeler, Assistant Professor of Music at BVU, is administrator for both camps. She is assisted by Gayle Strom from Storm Lake St. Mary's High School.
