Eighth grade tracksters have strong showing

Tuesday, May 8, 2007

Breaking the Storm Lake eighth grade girls school discus record once wasn't good enough for Jackie Brungardt.

Brungardt, who threw 97 feet, 7 inches last Monday in Cherokee to break the school record, broke her own record three days later by going 102-4 Thursday in a triangular here with Sheldon and South O'Brien.

Sheldon won, while the Tornadoes were second and South O'Brien third.

In addition to Brungardt's feat, Megan Thompson won the 1500 in 6:16.44.

The Tornadoes' 1600 medley team of Thompson, Katelyn Larson, Brungardt and Nya Ngut finished first in 5:21.65.

Also winning gold was SL's 800 medley (Larson, Ann Brady, Katelyn Goodchild, Brungardt), which flew 2:15.9.

Brady was second in the 100 (15.9), as were Thompson in the 800 (2:54.72) and Goodchild in the shot (25-2.5).

SL's 4x200 (Melody Garcia, Annie Xamonty, Pamela Vongdeuane, Joanne Douangmany) also earned silver, running 2:19.47.

In the 4x100, Larson, Brungardt, Goodchild and Brady teamed for third place in 1:02.06.

In the 4x400, Douangmany, Garcia, Xamonty and Goodchild ran to bronze in 5:53.17.
