The Storm Lake High boys swim team dropped its only home dual meet of the season here Thursday afternoon, losing to a strong team from Spencer, 125-38.
According to Tornado coach Laura DeLoss, one of the highlights was a ten-second drop in time for SL senior Dallas Eddie in the 500 Freestyle.
Others were: A six-second drop in time from the Medley Relay team of Casey Schultz, Lucas Droessler, Peter Winterton and Michael Rodger (2 minutes, 5.66 seconds); a three second drop in the 100 Butterfly for Schultz, who finished with a personal best of 1:09.78.
Other highlights include a season's best time in the 100 Freestyle by Nate Converse, who finished in 1:05.26. Droessler added a season's best time in the 100 Breastroke in 1:16.31.
"The seniors had some good times in the pool and out," DeLoss said. "They had a lot of support from the home crowd, and both of our captains had best times."
DeLoss said she is already looking forward to next year, given the amount of improvement this team has made.
"We continue to show improvement," she said. "(Our athletes) have come a long way and worked very hard to learn the techniques they now show.
"With two meets left this season, I can't help but look forward to the guys' next season. I know they will continue to get faster and learn more about the sport."
DeLoss also praised the volunteers, many of whom were parents of SLHS boys or girls swimmers. "They are the people who make home swim meets possible," the coach said.
