Waterpark prices set, locals to get a break

Monday, January 29, 2007

Storm Lake city officials plan to offer a discount to Buena Vista County residents using the outdoor waterpark at King's Pointe, scheduled to open on June 1.

The pricing was set to ensure that the community can affordably use the outdoor waterpark, which has replaces the city pool.

"We've worked extremely hard to ensure the outdoor waterpark remains affordable, while balancing the need to cover our expenses for a facility of this size. We are very pleased and excited that we can offer a discounted rate to all residents of Buena Vista County," said Patti Moore City Administrator.

A new Resident Card process for locals will help to effectively manage the traffic flow at the waterpark ticket gate.

With a Resident Card. the entrance fee will be $4 for children (age 3-17), $6 for adults (18 - 64) and $5 for seniors (age 65 and over). Children under 3 will receive free admission.

BV County residents can also purchase a Single Season Pass for $100.

A Family Season Pass for $175 (includes up to 5 family members - additional family members are $20 each). The use of Season Passes is limited to BV County residents.

"The Resident Card will help us readily determine who qualifies for the discount. When you're looking at a capacity of over 900 people at the outdoor waterpark alone, we need a fast, simple way to identify who we can discount, and who needs to pay standard pricing. The extra step of obtaining a Resident Card at the beginning of the season will help us protect this discount," explained Stacey Eddie, Director of Sales.

There will be a one-time per season charge of $2 for each Resident Card to cover administration and printing costs.

These resident discounted options will be available for purchase at the Sunrise Pointe Golf Course (Municipal Clubhouse) on April 21st, April 28th and May 5th from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Each family will complete a simple one-page form and show proof of residency in Buena Vista County for both Resident Cards and Season Passes. Acceptable forms of identity include driver's license, utility bill, or pay stub showing their current address. A laminated Resident Card or Season Pass will be provided to each individual listed on the form.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this pre-sale option to save time at the ticket gate when the waterpark opens.

Payment plans are also available for Buena Vista County residents buying Season Passes. Payment plans may be set up at City Hall starting February 1st. The payment plans are self-directed and no finance charges will apply; however, all plans must be paid in full before passes are issued.

Visitors to Buena Vista County will pay the standard outdoor waterpark pricing which is $8 for children, $10 for adults and $9 for seniors. Free admission is available for children under age three.

Punch cards for 10 visits are also available for $70 dollars and can be used by multiple people.

"While locals can purchase season passes, we needed a discounted option for out-of-county guests who may use the waterpark multiple times throughout the summer. The punch cards are perfect for large families or groups. They're also a great option for local grandparents to use for the visiting grandkids," Eddie said.

The City is working toward finalizing a contract with Leisure Hotels to manage the outdoor facilities. The firm also will manage the hotel.

Anyone with questions is encouraged to call City Hall at 712.732.8000 or King's Pointe Waterpark Resort at 712.213.4500.
