Luther College junior Ryan Schultz, of Storm Lake is a member of the 2006-07 Luther College Jazz Orchestra.
Schultz, the son of Dr. Mark and Shari Schultz of Storm Lake, is a 2004 graduate of Storm Lake Senior High School. He is majoring in physics and biology at Luther.
The Jazz Orchestra is conducted by Juan Tony Guzmán, Luther assistant professor of music.
Guzmán is a conductor, composer, arranger and music educator from the Dominican Republic. During the past twenty-four years he has conducted choirs, bands, and orchestras in North America, Europe, Central and South America.
He has written many choral arrangements of Caribbean and Latin American music, some of which are published by Boosey & Hawkes.
Guzmán served as consultant for the design and implementation of the nationwide music education curriculum in the Dominican Republic.
Guzmán holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from the Florida State University and a degree in Electromechanical Engineering from the Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Guzmán received the bachelor's degree from Luther College, and the master's degree from Florida State University in music education. While attending Florida State, he also received the associate degree in pedagogy of music theory.
