Once again, it is time for the January Blues Series as part of the History of the Blues class at Buena Vista University. This year the program will bring three well-known blues acts to Storm Lake for public shows.
* Friday January 5 will be the Tribute to Jimmy Pryor show. Pryor was one of Iowa's greatest blues performers, for nearly 50 years, and twice performed at BVU. He passed away last summer after a battle with cance.
Performers are Tom Gary (veteran bluesman and leader of the blues class) and the Eric Hovey Band (Hovey is a native of Fort Dodge) offer a night of music and stories about the great bluesman.
* Thursday January 11, hall of famer Bob Dorr will be in concert. He is the vocalist, harpist, and leader of the Blue Band, as well as Iowa Public Radio's host of Backtracks, and Down on the Corner.
* Thursday January 18, Burnside and Reed will perform.
This African American, acoustic duo performs authentic blues. They also are well versus in the story of the blues, and intermingle history with their music.
All shows start at 7 p.m. at the Schaller Chapel and are free.
