An upbeat election
TO THE EDITOR:
The residents of Buena Vista and Sac Counties have just experienced a most usual election this week. Both candidates are to be commended for such a positive campaign! It was good for the candidates to introduce themselves through the media and many meetings. They stated their reasons for seeking this position, all without a negative comment from either person. They have "raised the bar" on how elections should be run. We give our thanks to Cate and Gary and all their volunteers who did a great job!

Dollars for Scholars
TO THE EDITOR:
Storm Lake Dollars for Scholars would like to thank all Storm Lake area residents who contributed recyclable cans to its can-drop receptacle, located outside the Hy-Vee store. Year-to-date a total of $3,597.65 has been raised through the can-drop project. This money will go toward paying operating expenses for the local chapter, as well as funding several scholarships this spring.
Dollars for Scholars promises its financial supporters that 100% of the money contributed during the fall fund drive will be given back to graduating seniors of Storm Lake High School and Storm Lake St. Mary's in the form of scholarships. To keep this promise, cash for operating expenses is raised through special projects like the can-drop receptacle.
Dollars for Scholars would also like to thank Kerry Sherlock and Hy-Vee for allowing the receptacle to be located outside the Storm Lake store. This fundraiser would not have been possible without their cooperation.
Storm Lake Dollars for Scholars continues to grow because of the generosity and support of the wonderful people in our Storm Lake community. Our organization applauds all of those individuals and businesses who have contributed to Dollars for Scholars, in some way, over the past years. Investing in scholarship support for the young people of our community is truly an investment in the future. Thanks so much!
