SL Cops Take Gloves Off For Needy

Monday, December 4, 2006

The Storm Lake Police Association announces a new program called "Gloves of Love". The Association has placed a Christmas tree in the lobby of the Police Station and is inviting the public to join Storm Lake officers and staff in hanging donated children's gloves on the tree. On December 20th the Police Association will provide the gloves to the local Upper Des Moines Office to be distributed to children throughout the community.

Lt. Chris Cole, Vice President of the Association states, "Time and time again we are in contact with families who don't have warm clothing or gloves to wear during the winter months. We're hoping this program will just be one more added measure to assist those families and children in need in our community."

Citizens are invited to drop off children's gloves at the station. "You and your families are invited to stop in the lobby and hang the gloves on the Christmas tree or just give them to the office staff", says association president Todd Erskine. The Police Station lobby is open from 7 am until 10 pm, Monday- Friday.

In addition the Police Association will have a box under the tree for donated canned goods. These items will also be delivered to the Upper Des Moines Office on December 20th.

The Storm Lake Police Association members wish the community a Merry Christmas and Safe and Happy New Year.
