SL 8th grade cagers on win streak

Storm Lake's eighth grade basketball teams have started the season on an impressive winning streak.

The eighth-grade A team opened its season with a 48-23 win over South O'Brien, with the B-team winning 37-15.

Carsen Anderson led the SL eighth grade A team with 21 points. Michael McCabe added nine.

Tom Cullen led the SL B-team with 12 points, with Miguel Rodriguez adding nine points and Brandon Khounlo eight.

The eighth-grade teams swept LeMars A and B teams in home-opening games Nov. 16.

The eighth-grade A team beat LeMars 41-27. McCabe led the young Tornadoes with 18 points. Luke Anderson added nine and Anderson and K.J. Besch adding six each.

In the B game, SL came away with a 34-27 win over LeMars. Francisco Melendez paced the team with 14 points, with Rodriguez and Derek Conklin scoring six points each.

On Nov. 13 in Spencer, SL A, B and C-teams all beat their Spencer counterparts.

In the A game, Anderson scored a game-high 13 points in a 38-25 win. McCabe added ten points.

The SL B-team routed Spencer 31-14. Melendez led the squad with ten points while Khounlo added eight.

In the C-game, John Eddie scored eight points in a 24-4 win. Dylan Gustafson and Kieran Cullen added six points each.

In Sheldon Nov. 9, Tornado A and B eighth-grade team swept their Orab counterparts.

Luke Anderson and Carsen Anderson each netted ten points in the A game, a 38-37 win. McCabe pitched in with nine points.

SL won the B-game 28-22 on the strength of 12 points from Melendez, eight from Khounlo and six from Rodriguez.
