SL swimmers shine in home meet

The Storm Lake swim lost a pair of dual meets here Monday at Finkbine Pool on the Buena Vista campus.

Algona edged the Tornadoes 48-46, while Spencer beat SLHS 65-31. In the other dual meet, Spencer beat Algona 66-38.

The meet started well for the Tornadoes, as the A Medley Relay finished with a season's best time of 2 minutes, 2.71 seconds.

Senior Colleen Hansen improved her 200 Freestyle time by .50 seconds and her 4.47 seconds off her time in the 500 Freestyle. Coach Laura DeLoss said all he SL varsity and JV entries in the 50 Freestyle improved their times. Varsity swimmers Paige Stieneke and Lauren Hall dropped over six tenths of a second. In the JV 50 Freestyle, Jacie Dahlstrom dropped .54 seconds and Angie Wells improved her time by 1.15 seconds.

In addition, senior Lynne Benningsdorf had a season's best time in the 100 Backstroke, dropping 1.15 seconds off her previous best. Senior Sarah Larson took second in the 100 Breastroke with a season's best time of 1:13.47.

Mary Mooney had a career best in the 100 Breastroke.

"The final score was disappointing," DeLoss said. "But it didn't show our great times and exciting Tornado results."
