Katie Fulton of Cherokee was proud and excited as she joined Chamber of Commerce members to cut the ribbon at Katie's Center for Yoga & Music Wednesday morning. The studio is in the always-changing downtown area at 517 1/2 Lake Avenue.
"I'm so excited to be here," Fulton addressed the crowd that had gathered in the studio, where classic hardwood floors and peach-painted walls give a calming feeling. The windows allow natural lighting to illuminate the studio.
The studio will be a place where yoga classes and private lessons will be held, along with music lessons in violin and viola
Fulton chose to open in Storm Lake because she felt the area was in the right stage for such a place.
"Storm Lake is a growing and I think the area has great diversity and I also like the university as well," Fulton said in a Pilot-Tribune interview.
Fulton has been studying yoga for three years.
"I started studying yoga when I was in India," Fulton explained. "My teacher opened a workshop for 10 days free to people and so many people came and received great health benefits from it as well."
Fulton felt so strongly about yoga she went to Detroit, Michigan, to study and become a certified instructor.
Fulton's yoga classes are offered different times throughout the week. She is also available for private lessons as well.
"I think that everyone should give yoga a try because there are many health benefits people can receive," Fulton said. "I have classes for beginners as well as advanced classes. My schedule is pretty open and I think my rates are very reasonable."
Even with the center new to the area, Fulton is looking forward to success.
"There has been a lot of good positive feedback," Fulton said
