The Alta High volleyball team improved to 12-0 here Tuesday, going 2-0 and winning a triangular tourney with Storm Lake St. Mary's and Aurelia.
The Cyclones opened with a 21-15, 21-17 win over Aurelia. Jahde Hammer led the way offensively with seven kills on 11 of 12 hitting. Jessy Bibler added six kills on seven of ten attacks.
Alta's Megan Suhr finished with 11 set assists with Bridget Murillo adding four.
Suhr was tough at the net defensively, notching three solo blocks. Dee Hinkeldey added two solo blocks.
Hammer and Amy Huseman each led the way in the back row with four digs.
"This was a good win for us," said Alta volleyball coach Jeannie Henningsen. "The girls came out quickly and got the job done.
"We stressed to the girls that when you play in a triangular and the games are two out of three to 21, you need to start fast."
In game two, a 21-17, 21-9 win over Storm Lake-St. Mary's, the Cyclones captured the triangular title.
Kelsie Peterson led the offense with six kills, with Hammer adding five and Dee Hinkeldey three. Suhr recorded seven set assists with Murillo adding three.
Alta's Brooke Schroeder was 9 of 9 at the service line, and Peterson 6 of 6. Hammer, libero player Amy Huseman and Peterson each netted three digs.
"We did a good job with fundamentals this week," Henningsen said. "We covered our hitters and played well defensively."
St. Mary's coach Heather Beal said her team needs to work better together.
"During our game with Alta we had some good runs and began to play better as a team," she said.
"We were able to pass the ball to the setter and get sets for our more powerful hitters."
