The Alta High volleyball team improved to 10-0 here Saturday, beating Graettinger-Terril and Sac City in the Alta Tournament.
The Cyclones opened with a five-game win over G-T, edging the Knights 28-26, 6-25, 25-11, 25-22. They followed that up with a 25-9, 25-15 and 25-12 win over Sac City.
Against G-T in the championship game, Kelsie Peterson the offensively at the net with 13 kills on 24 of 28 hitting, while Jahde Hammer recorded 11 kills on 17 of 19 attacking. Freshman Jessy Bibler added six kills and Dee Hinkeldey six.
Megan Suhr finished with 20 set assists and Bridget Murillo added six.
At the service line, Hammer was 17 of 19 with three ace serves. Suhr was 10 of 11 with one ace and Brooke Schroeder was 14 of 14. Brianna Aube was 14 of 16 with three ace serves
Hammer led Alta with 11 digs, while Amy Huseman and Peters each finished with seven.
"We played hard and beat a very good Graettinger-Terril team," Alta coach Jeannie Henningsen said. "I think our comeback in the first game when we were down 19-24 and wound up winning 28-26 really gave us a boost.
"We had to make some adjustments during the match and the girls did that," she added. "After that, we started dominating offensively. We also had good placements with our serves, which made G-T get of its offense."
Sioux Central 2
Despite 16 kills, 11 blocks and 14 digs from Beth Ehlers, the Sioux Central volleyball team suffered a Northwest Conference loss to Newell-fonda Thursday in Newell, 25-22, 23-25, 13-25 . 25-13 and 15-25.
Rebel freshman Brooke Scharn and Stephanie Rushton each added seven kills and Briana Scharn six.
"Christine Blomgren was ill so we had to move a few players around, which I feel affected out level of play, " Sioux coach Sue Mattson said.
Briana Scharn recorded a team-high 21 digs and 21 set assists. Melanie Richter finished with 19 digs.
