"Celebrating Iowa's Hidden Lakes... and small towns too" is the theme for the eleventh MotorIoway 1000 tour presented by Choice Hotels of Iowa.
The vintage vehicle tour will be held from September 30, - October 6, with over one hundred pre-1981 cars, trucks and other specialty vehicles now registered as participating, making it one of the largest events of its type in North America. The tour will start in Storm Lake, finish in Clarion and visit 14 other communities via 'pit-stops', lunch stops or overnight stays. Vehicles and drivers will be from 9 states and over 60 Iowa communities.
This tour will roughly follow the southern edge of the last glacier to carve out northwest Iowa's lakes 14,000 years ago. The MotorIoway 1000 began as an Iowa Sesquicentennial celebration in 1996, then became an annual event. Gathering Day will be held in Storm Lake on Saturday, and after their tours, drivers will stay overnight in the city again Sunday and Monday.
