Jason Hustedt receives Nebraska scholarship

Jason Matthew Hustedt, Storm Lake, was among approximately 450 students who have been awarded New Nebraskan, Nebraska Legacy or Midwest Student Exchange Program scholarships to attend the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. The scholarship winners are from 38 states.

New Nebraskan scholarships are awarded at three levels covering all or part of the differential between in-state and out-of-state tuition.

Hustedt received the Ruth Leverton Scholarship. He will be studying biochemistry.

Evening conversational Spanish short course at ICCC

An evening Beginning Conversational Spanish short course will be starting Monday, Oct. 2 at Iowa Central Community College in Storm Lake. The evening class will be held for seven consecutive Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Jim Osegaro will be the teacher. The course fee is $70.

The short course will be held at the Iowa Central Community College Center in Storm Lake.

Get your hands dirty making a hand cast stone-look trough with instructor Veronica McFadden at the CommUNITY Education-sponsored course to be held Saturday, Sept. 16 (9 a.m.-noon) and Sunday, Sept. 17 (2-3:30 p.m.) at 605 Lake St., Alta.

This pot style is very popular in England. These simple containers are easy, practical and inexpensive to make.

Registration deadline is Sept. 7. Fee is $20 (plus a supply list of $16 to be paid to the instructor at the first class.)

At the end of the class you will have a trough that is appropriate for herbs, plants and rock garden plantings.
