MOUNT VERNON - Sarah Heller fired a one-hit shutout in the first game, and Courtney Anderson went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs in the nightcap as Buena Vista split a doubleheader with Cornell in Iowa Conference play Tuesday.
Cornell won the opener 2-0 while Buena Vista took the nightcap 7-4.
Heller stymied the Beavers on one hit as the Rams won their first conference game of the season. It was Heller's second shutout in her last three starts. Laura Lunders had the only hit.
Erin Quass suffered the loss, allowing three hits and no earned runs while walking one and striking out four.
Buena Vista had nine hits in the nightcap, including three by Anderson and two by Molly Schuler. Anderson drove in a run with a triple and Michelle Origer had an RBI double.
Schuler and Gelene Bousum each delivered an RBI single for the Beavers, now 7-3 in the league and 17-8 overall.
Quass pitched all seven innings, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs while walking none and striking out three.
Buena Vista plays host to first place Wartburg today.
