STORM LAKE - Sioux City Heelan scored four goals before halftime and went on to post a 7-0 shutout win over Storm Lake in a boys soccer match Tuesday night at Tornado Stadium.
"We knew coming in that Heelan would be one of our toughest opponents," Storm Lake coach Don Parkhurst said. "What really hurts is getting shut out. Heelan is big, strong, and wears you down with numbers. We tried to make some adjustments at halftime, but obviously those didn't work out."
"It's difficult to find a silver lining in such a lopsided defeat," Parkhurst added. "But I have to say that I'm proud of the way our boys fought until the very end. The second half we were basically playing for pride. The boys showed a lot of pride and poise in the way they battled to the last seconds."
Sioux City Heelan won the junior varsity match 4-0. Storm Lake plays at Sioux City North on Friday night before entertaining Spencer next Tuesday.
