NSDAR Chapter receives awards

The Buena Vista Chapter NSDAR has been awarded the most coveted honor in the Iowa State Society DAR with the national membership chairman's state conference award for the largest percentage increase in membership for the year 2000.

The Pauline Pressley Corey Membership Award silver tray was presented at the recent state conference. The traveling trophy stays in the chapter as long as it retains its status.

In addition, the chapter was given a gold award, the highest attainable in the state. Two more awards were given for commemorative events. Those included the promotion and visibility of Constitution Week; recognizing Korean War veterans and promoting the Parade of Flags.

The following other awards were received at the same time: North Central Division NSDAR - second place: Largest increase in Chapter membership in chapters with 12-25 members; Largest percentage increase in Chapter membership in chapters with 12-25 members. Third place: Chapter with largest percentage increase in membership. Honorable mention: Most new members by application in chapters with 12-25 members.

Meredith Stille, daughter of Steve and Becky Stille, received a Good Citizen award from the chapter. The Storm Lake senior read her essay, "Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It" before members at the April 16 meeting.

Officers elected and installed were Jane Germann, Regent and Marjorie Miller, Registrar.
